Phillip Ruddock figures out the price of a human life:

From my daily news service, 15 May (yesterday):

The federal government's crack down on asylum seekers has resulted in a $467 million windfall for taxpayers.
It's been 17 months since the last boat carrying illegal immigrants arrived in Australian waters and as a result the government has downgraded its estimate of the number of unauthorised arrivals from 4,500 a year to 1,000 a year.

"That equates to a $437 million saving over four years", Immigration Minister Philip Ruddock said.

Hey bonus, we just saved money from *not* helping save 3,500 human lives...."Australians all let us rejoice"...
