Wednesday, September 24, 2003 Dodgy dossier really was dodgy dossier Unsurprisingly, it seems that the dodgy dossier on Iraq's WMDs really was dodgy after all... A close aide of British Prime Minister Tony Blair ordered a last-minute redrafting of the government's controversial dossier on Iraq to boost the case for war, an email has revealed. A key passage in the dossier was changed following an 11th hour intervention by Blair's chief-of-staff Jonathan Powell, newspapers reported today. Powell warned on the eve of publication in September 2002 that wording in the dossier suggested Saddam Hussein would use his chemical and biological weapons (CBW) only if attacked. In an email to John Scarlett, chairman of the Joint Intelligence Committee which brings together the heads of British intelligence services and which signed off the dossier, Powell said the passage was "a bit of a problem" as it could play into the hands of those opposed to war. UPDATE: Tony Blair under pressure, from own party, to resign — OK, consider my bluff well and truly called. He's still a lying weasel, but get real folks, surely it's better than a Tory government? posted by Jojo | 1:57 PM Itsa madmadmadmadmad world From the latest Herald/ACNeilsen Poll: Almost 70 per cent of Australians believe John Howard misled them on his case for war in Iraq, a new poll shows. However, about the same proportion still prefer him to Simon Crean as Prime Minister. posted by Jojo | 9:02 AM |
